Leggendo con attenzione la citazione di Stinchombe riguardo l'esperienza organizzativa di una popolazione in grado di determinare la nascita di nuove organizzazioni,migliori di quelle precedenti,mi viene in mente un articolo che ho letto qualche giorno fa su Segno nel mondo,una rivista bisettimanale a cui sono abbonata.Il titolo è "Freedom trail,la via della convivenza".Vorrei riportarlo interamente:"Michael Cramer,un europarlamentare verde tedesco,ha proposto di trasformare la vecchia "cortina di ferro",che divideva il mondo occidentale e quello comunista,in una pista ciclabile.L'idea si ispira al tour statunitense Freedom trail lungo il quale sono commemorati i luoghi in cui furono combattute le più importanti battaglie della guerra d'indipendenza americana.
Per Cramer l'obiettivo europeo è di trasformare un territorio di morte in una linea di vita alla vigilia del 60° anniversario della nascita della definizione "cortina di ferro".Tale definizione venne addebitata all'allora premier britannico Winston Churchill,che in un discorso divenuto poi celebre,tenuto nel 1946 al Westminster College di Fulton, nel Missouri(Usa) disse:"Da Stettino nel Baltico a Trieste nell'Adriatico una cortina di ferro è scesa attraverso il continente.Dietro quella linea giacciono tutte le capitali dei vecchi Stati dell'Europa Centrale e Orientale.Varsavia,Berlino,Praga,Vienna,Budapest,Belgrado,Bucarest e Sofia;tutte queste famose città e le popolazioni attorno ad esse,giacciono in quella che devo chiamare sfera Sovietica,e sono tutte soggette,in un modo o nell'altro,non solo all'influenza Sovietica ma anche a un'altissima e in alcuni casi crescente forma di controllo da Mosca".
Quella descrizione di un confine ideologico,configuratosi all'indomani della seconda guerra mondiale,che separava gli Stati del blocco orientale sotto il controllo dell'Unione Sovietica dal resto dell'Europa,ha retto per oltre quarant'anni.Poi,con l'elezione al soglio pontificio di Giovanni Paolo II,la Polonia ha gradualmente indebolito il fronte sovietico avviando un effetto domino che ha avuto nel crollo del muro di Berlino e nella riunificazione tedesca il punto di svolta irreversibile che ha condotto alla dissoluzione dell'Unione Sovietica.
L'europarlamentare tedesco ha già realizzato un tour su due ruote lungo il tracciato ove sorgeva il muro di Berlino.Quel muro,eretto nel 1961,lungo 106 km,è stato per quasi trent'anni una vergogna per i tedeschi che l'hanno abbattuto nel 1989.Lo scopo per cui era stato costruito era quello di fermare un esodo continuo di monodopera che lasciava l'Est attratto dal benessere dell'Ovest.Tra il 1946 e il 1962 oltre 2,5 milioni di persone avevano varcato la frontiera,spesso illegalmente,senza far ritorno.E su una popolazione di 17 milioni,quale era allora quella della Drd(la Germania comunista),le fughe pesavano.Oggi la Germania si avvia ad avere,con Angela Merkel,il primo concelliere donna,nonchè il primo,dopo la riunificazione,a essere nato nell'allora Drd.E'il segno che l'abbattimento dei muri non genera solo insicurezze,ma può offrire nuove possibilità e un maggiore arricchimento alle parti che prima ne erano separate.La proposta di trasformare un confine,a lungo considerato invalicabile,in meta turistica,spinge a considerare l'inclinazione europea a superare,sia pure con lentezza,i propri limiti col genio della convivenza.E' la parabola iniziata dopo la Seconda guerra mondiale con il processo di unificazione europea,che avvicinò Francia e Germania,tradizionali avversari nel continente,e che progressivamente sta ora avvicinando quelle capitali un tempo separate dalla "cortina di ferro".Si tratta di un genio specialmente europeo,a volte ferito(come nel caso della guerra nei Balcani),ma che altrove non alligna sovente.Soprattutto guardando ai conflitti esplosi negli ultimi anni e ai muri che si ergono all'orizzonte."
